Access control cards, or key cards, are utilized at all Pike County Schools to control access to our buildings.

Pike County Schools has invested in two Campus Safety Monitors (CSM) for our campuses.  The role of the CSM is to maintain an ongoing review of the physical security of the school location(s) to which they are assigned.

All Pike County employees will be equipped with an Audio Enhancement crisis response notification lanyard. Each employee will be trained in the proper use of the notification system. Administrators will be alerted for a need of their presence in the location, and emergency services may be notified. Alerts of this type may be for either a health or student discipline concern. The alert notification system will also appear on staff desktops and display devices throughout the school, and announcements will be made by intercom throughout the building.

The Board of Education is committed to ensuring a safe and orderly learning environment for all students. The Code of Conduct establishes expectations for student conduct and consequences for infractions. The Primary and Elementary schools are equipped with door alarms that are activated when any exterior door is opened during an unscheduled time of the school day.  The alarm alerts school personnel, who are equipped to quickly respond to ensure school campuses remain safe and all the whereabouts of all students have been verified.

School Resource Officers (SROs) provide a layer of safety and security within Pike County Schools. Our District has budgeted for SROs at all five of our schools.  Currently the Middle School, Ninth Grade Academy, and High School are assigned an SRO. SROs make regular visits to the Elementary, Primary, and PreK Schools.

All doors of all Pike County Schools facilities remain locked to ensure that visitors entering the building are only able to access the front office for assistance. This single point of entry ensures that visitors are not able to enter hallways or offices without permission.

School bus cameras ensure our bus drivers can transport students safely as well as intervene if students engage in bus-related misconduct. All Pike County Schools buses have been equipped with camera systems that provide audio and video recording capabilities.

Pike County Schools have implemented the OpenGate Weapon Detection Systems (WDS) in the Middle School, Ninth Grade Academy, and High School.  All students and guests must pass through the WDS as they enter these buildings. 

In addition to the tools already listed, Pike County works closely with safety partners to be as prepared as possible for any emergency event.

• Each School Safety plan is updated annually and submitted to Georgia Emergency Management Agency (GEMA) for feedback and approval.
• Pike County School District’s Crisis Response plan is revised annually and submitted to GEMA for feedback and approval.
• Pike County participates in an annual STAR Audit by GEMA which is a stress test of the intruder access control plan.
• Pike County Schools recently received training from GEMA on Behavioral Threat Assessment Management which will improve our ability to be proactive with students or adults that behave in a threatening manner.
• Each school participates in a monthly safety drill, either Fire, Severe Weather, or School Intruder.
