HOME OF THE PIRATES

At Pike County Schools, we believe that if we equip and empower teachers to design and implement coherent, aligned, rigorous, and highly engaging instructional units with a balance of content mastery and content application, then students will engage in the learning at high levels as critical thinkers who can solve problems and ultimately as graduates, prepared for employment, enlistment, or enrollment.

At Pike County Schools, we embrace the reality that in the 21st century, student success will ultimately depend less on what they know and more on what they can do. That is, the ability for students to adapt in shifting work environments and excel in fast-paced, diverse communities will be critical to their long-term growth. To create a learning environment to facilitate these goals, we must do the following:

• Seek Excellence
• Take Ownership
• Invest in Others

The mission of Pike County Schools is to develop engaged citizens ready for higher education or the workforce through rigorous learning experiences balanced with creative problem-solving opportunities.

The vision of Pike County Schools is to provide an educational experience of excellence that values the needs, interests, and talents of all students.

WHAT SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES DO WE FOSTER IN OUR GRADUATES?

Pike County’s Portrait of a Graduate consists of five core competencies: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Collaboration, Communication, and Personal Responsibility. These competencies are necessary for a student’s success in college, in their career, and and in their overall lives. The Portrait of a Graduate serves as the District’s “North Star” with regards to how we structure our curriculum.

Pike County is focused on the success of every student in our district. This means enabling students to follow a range of different paths and not subjecting them to “cookie cutter” curriculums. We pride ourselves on fostering the skillsets of a diverse and multifaceted student body.

We do this by providing specialty courses, curriculums, and experiences that range from computing and technology to farming and mechanics. Our goal is to ensure that by the time our students graduate, they have a strong understanding of their skillsets, passions, and goals.
